Southwest Regional Folk Alliance is a regional chapter of the Folk Alliance International. The Conference includes Official Showcases on Friday and Saturday night.

The conference is seeking Americana, Folk, Songwriters, Roots, Blues, Bluegrass and Urban/R&B artists for the 14th Annual Southwest Regional Folk Alliance Conference, which will take place in Austin, Texas from September 26 - 29, 2013.

Other events at the SWRFA are In-Room Showcases late night on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; Open mic opportunities at the reception and pool party; a trade show for networking, shared meals (another great networking opportunity and included in the Registration price) and panels/seminars/workshops during the day on Friday and Saturday.

The seminar topics address many facets of the music business - booking and tour planning, agents and managers, music law, the internet, getting airplay, studio know-how, song sharing and discussion, wellness while on the road and looking for alternate ways to get our music to the world - such as in schools and films.

Artists, managers, agents, venue operators as well as folks who come to listen enthusiastically find a common bond, make new friends, discover new music, have fun and learn. So come on down and enjoy some Southwestern hospitality in the Capitol City.

This year, John Lennon Songwriting Contest is giving away their biggest prize package yet totaling over $320,000.00! Every year, there are a total of 72 Finalists, 24 Grand Prize Winners, 12 Lennon Award Winners and 1 "Song of the Year." Winners, based on their level of achievement, will receive studio equipment from Avid, Roland and Boss, Audio-Technica, Gibson Guitars and Epiphone, Propellerhead, Neutrik, Genelec, Solid State Logic, VOX, SKB, JamHub, Mackie and Ampeg. Instrumental compositions are encouraged.

Measure - 2009 Electronic Finalist- "Begin Again", Measure's debut EP released late April of 2008, is immediately accessible, vulnerable, and honest. Measure's winning song 'Begin Again' has been featured on Melrose Place, a promo for NBC show 'Mercy', and their song 'End of Everything' can be heard on a televised Public Service announcement featuring Morgan Freeman.

Colourslide - 2007 Song of the Year- Colourslide released their eponymous debut, which quickly went to number one at Awarestore.com. The record received extensive radio airplay throughout the south and was subsequently licensed to ESPN, MTV, Oxygen and E!. To date it has received over thirty television spots with many millions of viewers.

A major TV production company and major sponsor have a new pilot in production, and White Knight Worldwide Music Group, Inc. (BMI) has been chosen as the Music Supervision/Publishing alliance to find new music. Production for the pilot has begun, and the show has standing offers from the 3 competitive National Broadcasting entities to be broadcast in Q3 & Q4 2013 once the pilot is approved. Their Flagship series, American Hero Experience, will broadcast to 80 Million households weekly in Q1 & Q2 on NBC Sports Network.

The show's immediate need is for indie music on a gratis, non-exclusive usage basis with artist credit given as chyron credit on screen that they can use and promote in this series of 52 web videos. Music selected and used has the possibility of being licensed as tracks for the final TV show (which could result in traditional licensing negotiations and traditional synch payouts & PRO royalties to artists/writers).

The show begins production in the Spring and needs music for the editor to sync with visuals ASAP. Instrumentals are best for the editors, but they certainly won't pass on something with a great vocal hook. Independent music with broadcast quality, high production value and commercial viability for mass distribution is welcome and will be reviewed. The most important element is that the music sets the right mood and tone for the video.

Here are a few notes that may assist you in picking the right song to submit:

The demographic is mostly male 18-54
The videos will be high end fishing/action lifestyle and/or product based, show is based around a celebrated figure who loves Hard Rock/Metal/Hardcore.
Instrumentals are best for our editors, but that is not an across the board mandate - vocals are welcome
Variety can include Hard Rock, Metal, Hip Hop, Alternative, Indie Rock, Southern Country Rock and Classic Rock.
SUSPENSEFUL tracks, Instrumentals, energetic music that builds
A variety of tempos and moods would also be good to build drama and excitement and variety. Think X-Files, Dramatic series, action builds and emotion building tracks for maximum visual/audio blend.
