Driven Productions, Inc. is proud to present the third annual X&Y Fest on Saturday, February 20th, 2010 from 2:00 - 11PM at Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida. This is the premier music festival for Generations X&Y, featuring 10 bands - 5 Gen X and 5 Gen Y.

This festival will bring together 2 generations over 1 great day of music. Solo artists, duos and groups of all genres are encouraged to apply.

Why perform at X&Y Fest? Bands receive a chance at their share of $500 in prize money, are presented well by a professional stage and sound situation, perform live on an art college campus for art-minded and open-minded students, receive space to sell merch and have the option of having their promotional item (such as a sampler CD, sticker, show flyer, etc.) distributed to all that attend.

The $500 in prize money will be split between the best Gen X band and the best Gen Y band at the festival. Winners will be partially determined by the crowd through votes taken at the festival. Votes placed by crowd members will influence the X&Y Fest staff's final decision.

One criteria for being picked to perform is bands must be able to pre-sell 20 discount tickets to the festival. If they fall short of 20 pre-sold, however, they will not be required to pay for unsold tickets. A band should either be confident they can pre-sell 20 tickets or that they can purchase some or all of them themselves to give away (or sell) to fans, family and friends.

Compensation: Accepted artists will receive $5 for each ticket sold (over 20 tickets in total), whether by pre-sale or walk-up day-of. When a ticket is pre-sold or purchased day-of, the person purchasing the ticket will designate which band they are going to the festival to see perform, allowing that band to receive credit for the ticket purchase.

The Songs From the Hat blog is seeking new music for review. In each update, Shawn Burnette will try and bring what he humbly considers an important song or artist. This is not intended to be the place to find everything you have never heard but should have. The blog's intention is to be approachable. Shawn will leave the brilliant, insightful people to write the technical blog for musicians. He want friends old, new or future to discover or rediscover some tunes.

The blog came about almost by accident. Between running a band and trying to be a father and husband, Shawn doesn't have a whole lot of free time. A friend opened a new bar in New York, and asked him to program the music. Shawn would point out interesting new songs, and the friend would ho home and it it to his iPod. That grew into the idea to start a new blog.

The songs and groups may be familiar or even popular from time to time. No one will like all the music on the blog - that's the point. It is just as important to know what you don't like as it is what you do. Sometimes when you least expect it, those bits and pieces will lead you to some amazing work that you will keep with you for the rest of your life.

Keane says about their experience at City Showcase: "It's hard to get anywhere as a band, and the City Showcase gig we played at the Islington Academy in February 2003 was a great opportunity for us to play on a bigger stage than we were used to. At that time we didn't have a record deal, so knowing there was no hope of tour support(!), every decent gig we were offered was a godsend and helped make us a better band."

City Showcase submissions through Sonicbids are open to ALL artists from all over the world and there is at least one slot reserved for a Sonicbids artist from North America. The selected artist will be paid $1000 (half paid upon proof of travel arrangements to Sonicbids, half paid after the performance at City Showcase). Last year City Showcase selected 16 Sonicbids artists. The event covers all types of music from classical to pop, from rock to urban. And all types of performer's from bands to singer songwriters, from solo artists to DJ's.

City Showcase will culminate in a series of live events in venues in London's West End including the legendary Borderline. The event will also host a series of workshops and seminars at The Apple Store, Regent Street, bringing together aspiring talent along with the most influential figures in what is a much reshaped and refreshingly vibrant new music industry.

Dan and Josh do everything in their power and then some to get rid of the body, including giving it to a charming homeless man, sending it on a trip to god-knows-where and also trying to flush it down the toilet. No matter what they do the body always comes back.

For over 12 years, Rusty's Surf Ranch in Shas played host to an eclectic mix of rock music, from ska and reggae acts to pop singers to straight up hard-rockers. The fun, casual music venue is located on the world famous Santa Monica Pier and is currently seeking fresh talent to add to its roster for Friday and Saturday night shows.

In addition to being known as a great place for showcasing live music, the 250 capacity venue features an award winning menu, so mellower acts will be booked for earlier time slots to accommodate its dining patrons. The sound and vibe accelerate from there, with each act allotted a 60 minute set to play. Due to draw issues, soloists will generally not be selected and the venue will feature 3 acts per show.

All booking is done 6-8 weeks in advance, with more immediate spots occasionally opening up. Opened in 1961, The Bitter End is New York City's oldest rock club. They are seeking bands to perform at this legendary venue. They book two months in advance and bands must have at least a 50-person draw. Compensation is based on the door.

The club books mostly rock-based bands but will consider most genres with the exception of hardcore, metal, rap or jazz. Bands are paid a percentage of the door, and some slots pay a guarantee. The Bitter End is an 18+ venue, and sets are generally 45 minutes to an hour.

The First Run Songwriting Competition is a Songwriting/Composing Contest open to songwriters, lyricists and music composers everywhere with a special division for writers and composers under 25. Winners will be selected in Jazz, R&B/Soul, and Lyrics/Song Poetry Only categories.

Contestants must compose music and lyrics according to guidelines for each category. One winner from each category will have their song featured in the Stage production, Firstborn in April 2010.

Categories:

Jazz: Songs should be 3-5 minutes long and piano centered. Submissions should have the title "Firstborn" and must have lyrics reflecting hope for a newly born daughter, the challenges that life presents and the love that will always be hers. It should be straight-ahead jazz, jazz fusion with R&B/Soul, or jazz fusion with contemporary acoustic/folk.
R&B/Soul: Songs should be 3-5 minutes long and feature any instrumentation. The style of the track should be a ballad in R&B, soul, neo-soul and/or acoustic fusion genres. Submissions can have any title, but lyrics should reflect a hope that beauty will return again in a life and love that was once beautiful, then changed for the worse.
Lyrics/Song Poetry Only: Writers may submit lyrics for either the Jazz or R&B/Soul guidelines. Judges in this lyrics only category base their evaluations on effective use of lyrical technique, story/theme development, rhyming and overall songwriting effectiveness. Judges also consider how successfully a lyric can be adapted to music.

Space 12 is a fairly new community center on the hip east side of Austin, TX with a quality P.A. and mixer, projection screen, and small lighting system. The Blue Light Sessions in-studio concert series is host to some of the best regional talent and was designed to provide a way for artists to record a live concert CD and DVD for free. The sessions are set in the stylish live room of Blue Light Digital Sound recording studio located in a historic building in Mt. Holly, NJ.

The artist's 45-minute set is recorded live into Pro Tools and filmed with an HD camera in front of an intimate audience of 25 fans. After the performance, the audio is mixed and mastered then duplicated onto custom printed CDs. Each performer receives 1 DVD and 26 copies of the CD, one for each of the audience members. The artist will also select 3 of their favorite songs from the DVD to be uploaded to Blue Light Sessions' You Tube channel and for use on their website.

Additionally, artist performances are considered for inclusion in the Blue Light Session TV show which airs in Princeton NJ, as well as being featured on the studio website.

Artists can apply online at Sonicbids to be considered for the concert series. There are 4 slots reserved for Sonicbids members each month. Selected artists are required to make a $50 deposit, which is refunded once the band has sold 25 tickets to the session. Ticket sales help cover the costs of recording, filming, mixing and duplicating. Blue Light will provide a custom-made web banner and HTML codes for each artist to direct fans to purchase tickets through TicketLeap.com. This is a great opportunity for artists to record a live album and concert DVD in an intimate atmosphere.

The NACA Mid Atlantic Festival provides an excellent low-cost opportunity for colleges & universities, booking agencies and self-represented artists to gather together, network, showcase, exhibit and conduct business.

NACA Mid Atlantic is the place to be to get in front of student activities planners from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Nearly 250 student buyers and their advisers from over 50 schools are expected to attend the 2010 NACA Mid Atlantic Festival in East Stroudsburg, PA, March 12-13, 2010, to meet with over 50 firms, artists and agencies in the Campus Activities Marketplace, NACA's exhibit hall.

More than 45 showcase opportunities are available in various categories.

Submission Requirements:

Submissions are due by 11:59 PM ET, Tuesday, December 15, 2009
Artists being submitted must submit a $35 fee.
Artists that are being submitted to showcase must have a current NACA associate membership or be represented by an NACA associate member firm or agency.
NACA National Associate Membership is $710. NACA Mid Atlantic Regional Associate Membership is $351.
NACA associate members submitting artists to showcase must also purchase an exhibit booth ($85).
NACA membership and exhibit booth application forms are available at the NACA Web site .

Your submission is not complete until membership and exhibit booth payment has been submitted to NACA. That's right. These additional payments must be submitted no later than the December 15, 2009 deadline. Your agent (if you have one) may have already submitted membership and exhibit payment; please check with them BEFORE you submit your showcase application in our drop box. If membership and booth payment is not submitted to NACA by you or your agent your submission will not be reviewed and you will forfeit your $35 submission fee. You will also receive this information in your auto-confirmation email once your on-line submission is received.

After you submit, then what? A selection committee consisting of student talent buyers and professional staff from a variety of colleges and universities will meet in mid-January to review all applications. Showcase selection results will be announced on the NACA Web site no later than Jan. 13, 2010.

Within two weeks of notification, selected artists must submit a $75 showcase performance fee. Selected artists will receive all access badges to event for the day of their performance.

JunoFest is a two-night music extravaganza that is part of The 2010 JUNO Awards weekend. It showcases the diverse spectrum of regional and national artists in Canada. JunoFest will feature 120 bands at over a dozen venues.

Now in its 20th year, The DSA 2009 Song Contest is one of the longest running international song contests for amateur songwriters. Offering over $5,000 in cash and prizes this year. This amateur songwriting contest will be judged on lyrics, melody, form, & originality.
