Sonicbids Upcoming Submission Deadlines

Sonicbids is a simple alternative to the endless clutter of physical press kits that is exchanged daily between musicians and the people who promote music. Our main product is the Sonicbids Electronic Press Kit (EPK). It's an easy-to-use, web-based graphic interface that contains all the basic information of a musical act such as music, photos or date calendar. The EPK can either be emailed to anyone with a click of the mouse or submitted in online promoter accounts through a virtual "Drop Box". Our success lies in the fact that we appeal to both sides of the musical spectrum: the people who make music and the people who promote it. We help musicians cut promotion costs, look professional and increase exposure; and we help event promoters by enabling them to take online submissions in minutes and by making their job simpler.

The contest is open to any amateur songwriters of all genres, but no music-only lyrics are needed. The winning lyrics, along with the three runners-up, will be printed in their entirety in the coinciding issues of American Songwriter magazine. 10-12 honorable mentions from the contests will be credited in each issue as well. All winners and honorable mentions will also be posted on AmericanSongwriter.com on the day (or before) each issue hits newsstands.

The writer(s) of the winning lyrics will receive a prize package including:

Sheryl Crow Southern Jumbo Special Edition Gibson Guitar (MSRP $6233.00)

Shure Microphone

The Annual Winner, chosen from the six bi-monthly contest winners, will receive:

Round Trip airfare for two to Nashville

One page Lyric Spotlight Feature in upcoming issue of American Songwriter

"Dream Co-Write" - American Songwriter will schedule a "Dream Co-Writing Session" for the winner with a veteran Music Row songwriter and also coordinate a recording of the new song with a professional demo company, valued at more than $600. Past "Dream Co-Write Sessions" have been held with artists such as Chris Young, Jim Lauderdale, Rodney Crowell and many more.

In 2010, Sonicbids artist Ryan Tanner won a co-writing session with Jim Lauderdale.

"Honestly the American Songwriter contest was one of the best things to happen in my career as a musician."

"I have been a fan of [Jim Lauderdale's] for so long, that I'll count it as one of the great experiences of my life just to sit and work with him."

"As far as the American Songwriter folks ... some of the finest people I have met. [They] are doing such a great thing ... what they are doing in every issue is something that is completely unique, and I don't know of another magazine that is writing about such a vast collection of artists and performers. I can say that they are a vital part of American music. I don't know where we could turn without it."

SONGS & WHISPERS Festival Maritim
Deadline: May 23, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

SONGS & WHISPERS are seeking 2 Sonicbids artists to fill slots for the SONGS & WHISPERS stage at Festival Maritim 2012.

Festival Maritim is one of the biggest Northern European Festivals focusing on traditional sailor music and a variety of modern folk and acoustic music. The festival is taking place in Germany at the Bremen Vegesack city centre which is very well known for its shipping and fishing industry over the last 200 years. The festival is visited by an average of 100,000 people over a period of three days from Friday to Sunday. The festival has been offering slots for S&W artists on main and smaller stages since 2010.

This year SONGS & WHISPERS will be selecting 2 Sonicbids artists to fill their Festival Maritim slots. Selected artists will receive free accommodation and modest compensation of $200 USD per band. Bands will stay at a hotel or the SONGS & WHISPERS artist flat in Bremen. Artists will play at least one show per day and will also have time for busking at the festival site and will retain 100% of merchandise sales.

For more information on Festival Maritim visit www.festival-maritim.de

Check out previous SONGS & WHISPERS performers on their YouTube channel.

IMPORTANT:

Any air or train travel to festival site will NOT be covered by Songs & Whispers

For more info, visit: http://songsandwhispers.blogspot.com/search/label/BOOKING

SONGS & WHISPERS Festival on Tour 2012

SONGS & WHISPERS Festival on Tour 2012
Deadline: May 23, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

This SONGS & WHISPERS circuit is a unique "ready to go" 7 day tour across Germany organized by [ps] promotion. A total of four artists will be touring together and S&W is seeking 1 Sonicbids artist to participate in the self-guided tour for this circuit over the course of a week. This circuit will run from July 9- July 15, 2012 and will include a performance at the SONGS & WHISPERS stage at the Breminale Open-Air Festival.

This circuit offers an opportunity that includes six shows, in cities within 150 kilometres of Bremen with a set length of 35 - 45 minutes per show per artist. S&W is also offering free accommodation at their artist flat in Bremen and covering petrol from the first to the last show up to a total amount of $250 USD (Please read the Overview of SONGS & WHISPERS section below for more details). Bands will also have time for busking at the festival site and will retain 100% of merchandise sales.

SONGS & WHISPERS is specifically seeking acoustic, alternative folk, alternative country, Americana, bluegrass, rock, singer/songwriter, and soul acts, but would consider some other, more eclectic/unclassifiable performers as well. Just note that some of the venues are small spaces that do not allow drums or very loud acts.

This is a great opportunity for bands from the US, UK, Europe, and elsewhere to tour in Germany, build a fanbase in a new area, make new friends/contacts, and take their career to the next level. The selected band will be travelling and sharing performance dates with the other three artists on the circuit.

About Breminale Open-Air Festival

Breminale is a five day open air festival that has been running since 1987 and presents over 100 local, national and international musicians and all sorts of artists and performers on five stages. Stages are protected against wind and rain and an average of 150,000 people visit throughout the five day festival. SONGS & WHISPERS is running the Breminale opening stage on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, and the Breminale closing stage on Sunday, July 15, 2012.

For video footage of the SONGS & WHISPERS Festival on Tour 2012 take a look at the YouTube Playlist

Overview of SONGS & WHISPERS:

Selected artists are booked on a 7-day tour circuit and given a detailed itinerary

During the tour, all artists will drive together in a car provided by SONGS & WHISPERS. Car rental, insurance and fuel is covered from the first to the last venue the artist plays at. S&W will cover up to a total amount of $250 USD split between all artists. If this budget is not needed in total, the difference remains property of SONGS & WHISPERS.

Bands are provided lodging at the artist flat in Bremen, Germany, which will be in driving distance of most gigs.

Nearly all venues provide a free meal and drinks

Bands can sell merch at shows and keep 100% of the income

Bands will be promoted through email blasts, local radio/TV, press releases, posters, flyers, and more

SONGS & WHISPERS maintains a 24/7 support hotline in case of any issues.

Check out previous SONGS & WHISPERS performers on their YouTube channel.

History of SONGS & WHISPERS:
Facing the fact that most labels, venues or promoters could or would not take the financial risk of working with an unknown artist, [ps] promotion decided to set up an infrastructure to promote, release and support music they like. Out of that, SONGS & WHISPERS began as a 5-day tour in January 2009 and had already grown into a 3 week circuit put on every single month by January 2010.

Compensation:
S&W shows are usually free of charge. A hat will be passed around by artists to collect tips during or after the show. S&W will give artists guidance about how to do this best. Bands may also collect live performance royalties through their PRO. Note that the "pass the hat" method is standard in Germany and generally brings in more than tips during performances than it might in many other countries.

Merchandise/busking:
Artists can sell any kind of merchandise during the show and keep 100% of the income. Artists typically sell CDs at shows and additional money can be made by busking and selling CDs on the street. It is doable and acceptable in most of the German city centres, even if its not 100% legal. The maximum amount of CDs sold while busking was 400 during a 6-week circuit. Former S&W artist Cajita says, "You will sell more CDs than you expect. Bring a lot."

Venues:
Shows take place in all kinds of traditional and non-traditional venues like music clubs, bars, hostels, record stores, churches, cinemas or even an organic farm. The list of venues for each circuit is very similar, and SONGS & WHISPERS has long-standing relationships with many of the venues, which range in capacity from 30 to 300. That makes arrangements for transportation and general logistics simpler, and some venues even have a built-in draw from local fans that come out to each SONGS & WHISPERS night at their local venue.

Transportation:

Any air or train travel will NOT be covered by Songs & Whispers

The artist will tour by car along with other artists, guided and backed up by a well planned schedule and travel book. There is a 24-hour hotline for artists to reach SONGS & WHISPERS for anything they need and bands will be greeted by a SONGS & WHISPERS rep upon their arrival and at multiple gigs throughout the circuit. Check out their Google Map for more information on the location of tour stops, lodging, transportation, and other useful stops like music shops, pharmacies, and recreation areas.

There is a 6-bed flat provided for artists in Bremen, Germany, which is in driving distance of most gigs. Please remember that bands must provide their own travel/air fare to get to the region, while transportation and accommodation during the tour is provided.

Promotion:
SONGS & WHISPERS promotes each of their circuits using messages to their email list, press releases to local media, posters and flyers distributed across Northwestern Europe, and through other means.

PA system/backline:
A sound system will be provided for all shows. Please keep in mind that, depending on the size of the venue and your repertoire, backline and amplification has to be adapted and stripped down to the local situation. Please note that there is no backline available in the venues, however S&W can provide a basic backline for an additional fee.

Testimonials:

"After that first tour, I came back to the UK and did a few gigs. People commented on how much better and more confident I was live than before the tour. All I could think of was going back for more gigs in Europe. In 2010, I went back to Germany six times for various festivals and gigs. In 2011, I've already been three or four (once for the full tour again), and have plans to go back for more.... Suddenly, through S&W, the idea of being a performing, touring musician for a living has become a viable option." -Cajita [UK]

"The amount of venues you get to play in such a short space of time [is what makes Song & Whispers special]. Personally, I'm very excited to play in venues that aren't normally venues, so playing in art centers and theatres and wherever else. It means you play to audiences that normally don't come to gigs." -Roger Illingworth of Buzzard Lope [UK]

For more info, visit: http://songsandwhispers.blogspot.com/search/label/BOOKING

Make Music Harvard Square: Volume 5

Make Music Harvard Square: Volume 5
Deadline: May 24, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Harvard Square hosts the fifth edition of Make Music / Harvard Square, a free, outdoors, live-music festival featuring more than 150 local bands. The event is expecting to bring in close to 10,000 attendees, and over 25+ Sonicbids artists are guaranteed to perform.

Starting at 1pm, musicians take over the streets of Harvard Square, in 22 different designated performance pitches, to celebrate the first day of summer with music. Musicians play for the enjoyment of new fans and old fans who come to hear new sounds and meet new people. Make Music / Harvard Square engages everyone from confirmed music-lovers to those just out for a stroll.

Last year, more than 75 bands performed covering all styles: rock, Caribbean, blues, r&b, electro, latin, gypsy, folk, world fusion, jazz, a capella singing, and much more.

Make Music / Harvard Square is an outdoor acoustic event, so selected artists will be asked to play unplugged or to bring their own battery powered amplifying system. Sets range from 30 minutes to more than one hour. We encourage all bands to sell cds and collect donations/tips from their listeners. Musicians will be acknowledged in an on-line Make Music / Harvard Square program on www.harvardsquare.com and in the printed event program. Performers are not compensated for this community event, which is free, family friendly and open to the public.

Make Music / Harvard Square is inspired by the "Fte de la Musique" a street-music festival which started 29 years ago in Paris. The "Fte de la Musique" is now celebrated, under many names, in more than 300 cities in 108 countries, from London to Beijing to Buenos Aires, all on the same day. Harvard Square is now a part of this worldwide celebration!

Make Music / Harvard Square is made possible through a special partnership and the support of the Harvard Square Business Association. In partnership with Marie Landel & Associates, the International School of Boston (located in Cambridge), Boston Accueil, and Boston French Party.

For more info, visit: http://www.harvardsquare.com/Home/Articles/Make-Music-V5.aspx

Anrgirl Says: Monthly A&R Critique (May '12)

Anrgirl Says: Monthly A&R Critique (May '12)
Deadline: May 25, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Anrgirl is Holly Hutchison - a music business veteran of 24 years who has held A&R executive positions at Capitol Records and Atlantic Records in Los Angeles prior to the creation of her own free agent A&R entity ANRGIRL.

This is a submission opportunity to be selected for a commentary or review in the "hotseat" or for the coveted Monthly A&R Critique that exposes selected artists to industry executives and professionals. It is guaranteed that the one song you submit will be listened to by ANRGIRL herself in order to be considered. Your submission to this listing does not guarantee you will be chosen and reviewed on ANRGIRL.COM or receive a review of your song submission via email. If you have not been selected, you will be notified via automated notification that you have not been chosen for the hotseat or The Monthly A&R Critique for that submission period.

ANRGIRL will listen to each Sonicbids submission in that submission period and select artists to be a highlighted artist in the "Hotseat" or for the coveted feature artist for The Monthly A&R Critique on ANRGIRL.com. Commentary and Critiques may be brutally honest with no sugar coating. If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

Holly has a consistent track record of spotting and letting industry folk know early on about future successful artists (such as Deftones, Alanis Morissette, Blink 182, Slipknot, Saliva, Bosson and Vega 4), as well as being involved in all aspects of album production and song selection for pop, rock and rap genres. She has worked with top producers, mixers and songwriters such as Timbaland, Peter Mokran, Ron Ainiello, Josh Abraham, Al Sutton, Michael Brauer, Dave Way, Diane Warren, Billy Steinberg, Monty Powell, Jack Kugell, and Steve Kipner, just to name a few. Read Anrgirl's full bio here

In addition to the one Sonicbids' artist per month who will be featured in the coveted "Hotseat" for the in depth Monthly A&R Critique, there will also be up to five Sonicbids artists selected for "Hotseat" brief commentary - they'll receive recognition and a quick one liner critique of ANRGIRL's take on the artist.

Remember to keep checking ANRGIRL Says on the website to see if your band has made the "Hotseat" through out the month. Brace yourself, could be filled with accolades or could be brutal commentary.

For more info, visit: http://www.anrgirl.com

Filter Magazine: Discovering the Undiscovered (May '12)

Filter Magazine: Discovering the Undiscovered (May '12)
Deadline: May 25, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

FILTER is the premiere music lifestyle publication covering on-the-verge bands and cutting edge musicians for the intelligent music lover.

Discovering the Undiscovered is a monthly contest to help promote the discovery of good music. Each month FILTER will choose one artist to rally behind. Using FILTER's resources to bring credible attention to the winning artist, the following properties will be leveraged for the duration of one month.

Selected artists receive:

An option for a digital recording contract with Filter US Recordings

FILTER's 12 city newsletters (LA, NYC, SF, DC, Boston, Chicago, Philly, Austin, Dallas, Portland, Seattle, Denver) will feature the Artist's bio and mp3 as the pick of the week for download.

The winning artist will be featured across filter-mag.com, including: news items, video (if available), digital downloads, album picks, and reviews, as well as a bio feature within the Discovering the Undiscovered blog.</il>

A special ad will be created for the winning artist and featured in FILTER Magazine and/or the Good Music Guide

Click Through banner ads will also be created and present on Filter's online properties to heighten awareness for the FILTER's Band of the Month

In addition, 5 runners-up will receive a 1-year subscription to Filter.

Check out the feature on Milano who were selected for the June issue.

Through these efforts FILTER will provide an avenue for awareness for undiscovered bands so fans gain awareness of the artist's music; thus generating a buzz and opening doors for more opportunities within the music industry.

Click here to check out an interview with Samantha Feld from Filter, as she talks about the DTU program, the submissions they receive and what bands are doing right and wrong when they submit.

The only requirement for selection is that the artist has some sort of body of recordings. Existing press is a plus but not required.

Tyler from Banter Records said this to say, on behalf of The Antiques and City Lights:
"Two of our artists were honored with the "Discovering the Undiscovered" feature in Filter Magazine - The Antiques and City Light. The Antiques especially benefited from this and headlined a Barker Block show in LA that was sponsored by Filter. This feature ultimately led to Filter US Recordings co-releasing The Antiques' album "Cicadas" and really taking them to the next level. We are a small label and I think this proves that Sonicbids really works to get artists of all sizes heard and given the respect they deserve!"

Nive Nielsen had this to say:
My experience with Filter was absolutely great - maybe the best one I've had so far, in terms of Sonicbids applications. They contacted and helped me make a banner etc. I wrote a bunch of times with questions, and got a prompt, patient and helpful reply immediately. The best part about being selected is it got me a lot of attention - increase in web hits, but also after Filter, we got picked up by several blogs and now the article is quoted in other magazines. But maybe the really best part was that I felt validated as a musician. I read Filter myself, and they wanted to spend some time on what I do. It gave me a huge confidence boost. It gives me more credibility as a serious musician with songs that are worth hearing.

Amelia Dunaway said:
"Being selected for 'Discovering the Undiscovered' has definitely given me the leverage to further promote my music that only a magazine feature can provide. It's so difficult these days to get the attention of a publication, particularly for new and emerging

For more info, visit: http://www.filter-mag.com

Blue Light Sessions (Feb-May '12)

Blue Light Sessions (Feb-May '12)
Deadline: May 28, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Blue Light Sessions in-studio concert series is host to some of the best regional talent and was designed to provide a way for artists to record a live concert CD and DVD. The sessions are set in the stylish live room of Blue Light Digital Sound recording studio located in the heart of downtown Mt. Holly, NJ.

The artist's 45-60 minute set is recorded live into Pro Tools and filmed with an HD camera in front of an intimate audience of 25 fans. After the performance, the audio is mixed and mastered then duplicated onto custom printed CDs. Each performer receives 1 DVD and 26 copies of the CD, one for each of the audience members. The artist will also select 3 of their favorite songs from the DVD to be uploaded to Blue Light Sessions' You Tube channel and for use on their website.

Recent session videos can be viewed at www.youtube.com/bluelightrecords.

Artists can apply online at Sonicbids to be considered for the concert series. There are 4 slots reserved for Sonicbids members each month. Selected artists are required to make a $50 deposit, which is refunded once the band has sold 25 tickets to the session. If artists do not sell all 25 tickets, they will be required to recoup the difference of unsold tickets (average ticket price $20). Ticket sales cover the costs of recording, filming, mixing and duplicating. Blue Light will provide a custom-made web banner and HTML codes for each artist to direct fans to purchase tickets through TicketLeap.com. This is a great opportunity for artists to record a live album and concert DVD in an intimate atmosphere.

For more info, visit: http://www.bluelightdigitalsound.com/sessions
