Sonicbids Upcoming Submission Deadlines

Sonicbids is a simple alternative to the endless clutter of physical press kits that is exchanged daily between musicians and the people who promote music. Our main product is the Sonicbids Electronic Press Kit (EPK). It's an easy-to-use, web-based graphic interface that contains all the basic information of a musical act such as music, photos or date calendar. The EPK can either be emailed to anyone with a click of the mouse or submitted in online promoter accounts through a virtual "Drop Box". Our success lies in the fact that we appeal to both sides of the musical spectrum: the people who make music and the people who promote it. We help musicians cut promotion costs, look professional and increase exposure; and we help event promoters by enabling them to take online submissions in minutes and by making their job simpler.

"In some ways, the music business is completely different than it was when I founded Steele Management in 1987. But when it comes to navigating today's industry, the fundamental principles are still the same. More than ever, an artist must be focused and driven to succeed. Too often,
management is the missing key in today's do-it-yourself music business."

"I always tell my artists when shopping for record deals, Just because someone says no today, that doesn't mean they'll say no tomorrow.' I'm professionally persistent, I don't give up and I get results." - Brett Steele President, Steele Management

Steele Management was originally formed as a boutique personal management company to represent the band Roxx Gang, a band that exploded on the music scene in 1988 and was the first hard rock band signed by Virgin America. Their Virgin release, "Things You've Never Done Before,"
sold 250,000 copies and yielded a Top 50 single in the UK. The band also released two videos "No Easy Way Out" directed by Nigel Dick (Guns-N-Roses) and "Scratch My Back" directed by Ralph Ziman (L.A. Guns). Both got extensive airplay on MTV. They also secured recording deals with Epic Records and Perris Records, a publishing deal with Virgin Music/EMI and licensing deals with Playboy Entertainment, MTV Networks and XBox 360. Thanks to a recent resurgence of interest in the now defunct band, a merchandising contract and digital distribution deal have recently been secured.

Steele Management continued its success story with the Mojo Gurus who's last CD, "Shakin' In The Barn," was produced by Grammy Award winning producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, New York Dolls) after he saw the band at NYC showcase booked by Steele
Management. Steele Management then secured a recording deal for the band with Empire Musicwerks and a national distribution deal with Universal Records. Steele Management's radio promotion helped "Shakin' In The Barn" spend six months on the national Americana and Alt-Country Charts.

They also represent the Royal Gents (recent winners of Best Rock Artist at the Los Angeles Music Awards), Van Preston (Nashville songstress nominated for Album of the Year by the European CMA's), Blind Buddy Moody (Best Discovery - Creative Loafings Best of the Bay Awards) and Chris Volpe (winner Folk Album of the Year - Independent Music Awards), Darrin James (Brooklyn based singer-songwriter, The Ditchflowers (Best CD of 2007-Creative Loafing) Ronny Elliott (Cult-icon) and are working with Th' Legendary Shack Shakers and many others.

Steele Management is now expanding its roster and taking on new clients. With over twenty years experience in the music business, the company has secured recording deals for their clients with Virgin Records, Epic Records, Perris Records, Empire Musicwerks, Universal Records, Bloodshot Records and True North Records.

Steele Management has negotiated publishing deals with Virgin Music Publishing/EMI and has recently been focusing on music licensing, securing deals with Breaking Records and licensing music to Playboy Entertainment, XBox 360, MTV Networks and the new Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) film It Might Get Loud staring Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge. Steele also has an extensive background in doing tour press, publicity and radio promotion.

SERVICES OFFERED
Steele Management is interested in reviewing artists in all styles of music for representation. They're looking for clients for personal management, shopping record & licensing deals, tour booking, radio and press promotion. They also offer career consulting, including image recommendations, multi-media package preparation and merchandising consulting.

Record deals: The track record of finding and negotiating deals for my clients includes Virgin Records, Epic Records, Perris Records, Empire Musicwerks, Universal Records,True North Records and Bloodshot Records. They also work closely with a NYC-based entertainment lawyer who has represented everyone from Blondie to David Lee Roth.

Publishing & licensing: Steele is shopping for publishing & licensing deals. They've done business with Virgin Music Publishing/EMI and have recently been focusing on music licensing. So far, they've secured deals with Breaking Records and licensed music to Playboy Entertainment, XBox 360, MTV Networks and the Davis Guggenheim ("An Inconvenient Truth") film called "It Might Get Loud," staring Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in September. The film was recently bought by Sony and will be released in the Summer of 2009.

Booking: They book and promote about 50 shows a year in Tampa Bay. They also book regional and national tours for my clients and supplement bookings with intensive promotional campaigns targeting press and fans. Steele hires all tour personnel and manage the accounting, payroll, accounts receivable/payable, bookkeeping and travel details.

Public Relations: Steele works on every aspect of an artist's image, from stage appearance to media work to photography & video. I help artists learn how to conduct interviews so they're invited back on radio shows and covered when they come back to town. I work with labels to develop marketing & advertising plans that target the right media for the artist's market. I write bios reporters can work with, oversee photo shoots that yield the best library of images, create functional press/promo packages - print & electronic, send accurate & organized press releases, and organize in-stores and other events.

A&R Report: Their newsletter, "Steele Management's A&R Report," goes out monthly to over 1,800 A&R reps, putting band news and website links directly into the hands of the labels who are looking for deals. They are currently accepting applications from bands who want to see what this kind of industry exposure can do for their careers.

Performers generally receive 70% of the gross door. Artists keep 100% of the CD sales the night of the performance and can consign their CDs in the shop year round. Workshop bookings for the following day are sometimes available with an extra compensation depending upon performer and draw.

Many genres are accepted with the one criteria that the music is acoustic. They are currently bringing in not just local artists but performers who tour regionally, nationally and internationally as well.

Past performers have included Buille from Ireland, Alvin Youngblood Hart, The Juggernauts, Johnsmith, Lil Rev, and many more.

Please understand this venue specializes in Acoustic music. Only on a very rare occasion do they book bands with electric guitars drum kits and synthesizers. If your EPK does not represent this format it is very hard for them to book you, no matter how great it might sound. If you have other material that is more representative of what you do acoustically, they recommend you add that to your EPK.

The promoters, Zig and Siusan, look forward to hearing from you and wish you well in successfully lining up some great gigs from Sonicbids!

For more info, visit: http://www.whitecrowconservatory.com

Cosmic Charlie's (Aug-Nov 2009)

Cosmic Charlie's (Aug-Nov 2009)
Deadline: Nov 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Located in Lexington, KY, Cosmic Charlies is a local music club that has been bringing live music to the region since 2000. Located in the heart of the University of Kentucky campus, the venue features live music seven nights a week. Bands will be compensated for their performance, and the venue provides a 22-channel PA and professional sound engineer.

There is generally a crowd at Cosmic Charlie's, but local draw is definitely a plus. Generally, bands are allowed to keep 100% of door receipts and are expected to play 2-3 sets over the span of 2.5 to 3 hours. Shorter, 60-75 minute sets are the norm when multiple bands play on a single night. Charlie's accepts local and national acts from most genres of music, including rock, pop, folk, reggae, funk, country, hip-hop, and jazz. There is also live bluegrass every Sunday night.

Acts booked to Cosmic Charlie's include The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Asylum Street Spankers, Afroman, Great American Taxi, and many more.

For more info, visit: http://www.cosmic-charlies.com

Filter Magazine: Discovering the Undiscovered (November 2009)

Filter Magazine: Discovering the Undiscovered (November 2009)
Deadline: Nov 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

FILTER is the premiere music lifestyle publication covering on-the-verge bands and cutting edge musicians for the intelligent music lover.

Discovering the Undiscovered is a monthly contest to help promote the discovery of good music. Each month FILTER will choose one artist to rally behind. Using FILTER's resources to bring credible attention to the winning artist, the following properties will be leveraged for the duration of one month and the selected artist will receive:

An option for a digital recording contract with Filter US Recordings

FILTER's 12 city newsletters (LA, NYC, SF, DC, Boston, Chicago, Philly, Austin, Dallas, Portland, Seattle, Denver) will feature the Artist's bio and mp3 as the pick of the week for download.

The winning artist will be featured across filter-mag.com, including: news items, video (if available), digital downloads, album picks, and reviews, as well as a bio feature within the Discovering the Undiscovered blog. For a rundown of 2008 winners, check here. .</il>

A special ad will be created for the winning artist and featured in FILTER Magazine and/or the Good Music Guide

Click Through banner ads will also be created and present on Filter's online properties to heighten awareness for the FILTER's Band of the Month

In addition, 5 runners-up will receive a 1-year subscription to Filter.

Through these efforts FILTER will provide an avenue for awareness for undiscovered bands so fans gain awareness of the artist's music; thus generating a buzz and opening doors for more opportunities within the music industry.

Click here to check out an interview with Samantha Feld from Filter, as she talks about the DTU program, the submissions they receive and what bands are doing right and wrong when they submit.

The only requirement for selection is that the artist has some sort of body of recordings. Existing press is a plus but not required.

The only requirement for selection is that the artist has some sort of body of recordings. Existing press is a plus but not required.

Tyler from Banter Records said this to say, on behalf of The Antiques and City Lights:
"Two of our artists were honored with the "Discovering the Undiscovered" feature in Filter Magazine - The Antiques and City Light. The Antiques especially benefited from this and headlined a Barker Block show in LA that was sponsored by Filter. This feature ultimately led to Filter US Recordings co-releasing The Antiques' album "Cicadas" and really taking them to the next level. We are a small label and I think this proves that Sonicbids really works to get artists of all sizes heard and given the respect they deserve!"

Nive Nielsen had this to say:
My experience with Filter was absolutely great - maybe the best one I've had so far, in terms of Sonicbids applications. They contacted and helped me make a banner etc. I wrote a bunch of times with questions, and got a prompt, patient and helpful reply immediately. The best part about being selected is it got me a lot of attention - increase in web hits, but also after Filter, we got picked up by several blogs and now the article is quoted in other magazines. But maybe the really best part was that I felt validated as a musician. I read Filter myself, and they wanted to spend some time on what I do. It gave me a huge confidence boost. It gives me more credibility as a serious musician with songs that are worth hearing.

Amelia Dunaway said:
"Being selected for 'Discovering the Undiscovered' has definitely given me the leverage to further promote my music that only a magazine feature can provide. It's so difficult these days to get the attention of a publication, particularly for new and emerging artists, so I think it's rad that Filter is making it a point to feature underground music. They have been professional, responsive, and have kept me in mind whenever a licensing opportunity has come up. Filter's 'Discovering the Undiscovered' is a stepping stone that has already proven to be great exposure, and will continue to be."

Caitlin Gutenberger of Two Sheds had this to say about their experience:
"After our submission was accepted, Filter contacted us personally to say how much they enjoyed our music and expressed interest in signing us to their label. We've since put out an EP through them, played some cool Filter Presents shows and had a chance to play the Filter Party at Cedar St. during SXSW 2008. They've also hooked us up with some great promo opportunities, and they help us with publicity and marketing."

Peter from Backlight Records had this to say, on behalf of Holler, Wild Rose:
"The FILTER feature was an invaluable vote of confidence in the band's music and has absolutely opened doors for others to experience their sound. We're very grateful for the exposure... as we continue to reach out to a larger audience."

For more info, visit: http://www.filter-mag.com

First Friday - Live in Las Vegas (Aug-Nov '09)
Deadline: Nov 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Neon Venus Art Theatre is located on the Las Vegas Strip and was started by Lissette Salazar Napoleon and Peter Valentino, members of the band Neon Venus. The theatre hosts a variety of non- and for-profit activities including live music, art exhibitions, and classes for children and adults in various disciplines of art.

They are looking for local, regional, and national artists looking to make a splash in Las Vegas. This is a great chance to network with other bands and members of the city's vibrant music and art scene.

Each show generally features 4-5 bands. A sound engineer can be provided and a backline can be arranged when necessary. There should be a collective effort promoting this event, and all bands should promote as much as possible to achieve a great turnout for the show.

Key Club Jam (Aug-Nov '09)

Key Club Jam (Aug-Nov '09)
Deadline: Nov 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Metro Detroit area is faced with the dilemma of having many excellent performers and a limited number of venues to where they can perform. Key of Gee and Tivaday partnered with The Key Club to provide a venue and an opportunity for monetary compensation for all musicians. It is both a showcase and a jam session, and the goal is to help artists to gain the knowledge and experience needed for success. The Key Club is located on the 3rd floor of Steve's Soul Food Restaurant, 1440 Rivard between Rivard and Riopelle in Detroit.

Featured artists are given a minimum of 50 tickets to sell. The artist gives the club $1 per ticket the artist keeps the rest of the money (possible $200) as their compensation. Artists are booked three weeks in advance to allow them time sell the advance tickets. The artist is asked to perform two songs. We provide all marketing and PR for the event as well as sell the artist's CDs and merchandise. Sound reinforcement/amps, mics and monitors are provided. Additionally, the event is videotaped for internet.

This is a fun event that allows the musician to network and perform with other performers. In recent weeks professional musicians like Ronnie McNeir from the legendary 4 Tops, Pat Lewis noted vocalist and arranger for the late Isaac Hayes and Hot Butter Soul, Shirley Jones from The Jones Girls, Flutist Althea Rene have stopped by to perform and view new talent.

The group/solo artist can get more than 50 tickets or each member can get an allotment of tickets for greater compensation.
Rock The House NJ Music Series

Rock The House NJ Music Series
Deadline: Nov 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

The Rock The House NJ Concert Series takes place approximately every six weeks on Friday or Saturday night from 7p-11p. The current location of the series is The Baird Center in South Orange, NJ, but this is subject to change as they explore other venue choices to suit their growing needs.

Produced and run by local independent musicians, this is an excellent opportunity for both up-and-coming artists and established acts to get in front of new, music-appreciating audiences. The series has a lounge-like atmosphere which is appropriate for all ages and complete with waitress-served cafe food. Each installment features four acts -- 35 minute sets each. The bands share backline. Rock the House endeavors to pair one out-of-town act with local NJ acts to keep attendance high. This means if you are a NJ-based band, you will have a higher probability of being selected since there will be more NJ-based slots to fill. However, out-of-town bands are still very encouraged to apply!

Past performers at the series include Someone Say Something, New Day Dawn, Alan Paul (Woodie Alan), The Plush Interiors, MoodRing and Caterpillar Book. All rock-based genres accepted including rock, blues, alternative, indie and accoustic.

For more info, visit: http://www.rockthehousenj.com

Scorpion Bar at Foxwoods (Aug-Nov 2009)

Scorpion Bar at Foxwoods (Aug-Nov 2009)
Deadline: Nov 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Open since May 2009, Scorpion Bar is a dark, gothic rock bar and Mexican cantina located in Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut. Artists are typically booked 6 months in advance. The venue is specifically seeking rock cover bands. While we do appreciate all genres of music, we are specifically seeking styles like Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Poison, and other danceable rock. Bands should play upbeat, popular, recognizable songs. Must have a hip, modern appearance.

They occasionally book major national acts, but are not accepting any original bookings through Sonicbids. No local draw is needed, but is appreciated. Compensation starts at $750 and is negotiable. 2 slots are reserved for Sonicbids members to become resident bands. Set lengths are (3) 40 minute sets. Scorpion Bar provides a top-of-the-line 12-channel Mackie mixing board, 3 mounted overhead EV speakers, 2 EV bass speakers on the floor in front of stage, two EV stage monitors and a reverb/EQ unit. The Scorpion Room does not provide a sound engineer but have designed a system that you should be able to operate on your own. Artists should plan to bring your own mics, mic stands, mic cables, instrument amps and drums. Bands must bring reasonable size amps because our stage is small. No stacks allowed.

Past performers include Ryan Cabrera and Mission Hill.

For more info, visit: http://www.thescorpionbar.com/

The Cha Cha Lounge (Aug-Nov 09)

The Cha Cha Lounge (Aug-Nov 09)
Deadline: Nov 27, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Aviation Records presents One Sunday at the Cha Cha Lounge! The Cha Cha Lounge has been Seattle's underground "scene" bar for the last 10 years and counting. It's been known as the watering hole for many of today's big names in rock and roll. With past and current bartenders from The Melvins, The Fast Backs and Murder City Devils, you can probably guess the cliental that come by.

The Cha Cha Lounge has recently moved from its old location on Pine St. to a new home 6 blocks up Seattle's Capitol Hill on Pike. Capacity of this location is 75-100. With a larger open area, they are able to accommodate smaller acts or members of larger acts performing acoustically.

Many genres are accepted if they can be played at a lower level of volume. Local draw is always good but not absolutely necessary to be booked. The venue will provide the P.A. system and sound engineer along with dinner and drinks. Small monetary compensation is usually provided but not guaranteed. Arrangements can be made for out-of-towners.

Space is limited, so artists are typically booked a few months in advance. Performances consist of 30 to 45 minute sets, 3-4 artists per night, and take place primarily on Sunday nights.

Past performers include Triumph Of Lethargy, Skinned Alive To Death, T.J. Cowgil of Book Of Black Earth, Neil Burton of Patient Patient, Grant Burton of Spook The Horse, See Me River & The Dead Horse Creek (members of Das Llamas), Corridor, Michael Vermillion and Pipsqueak.
Albums are selected quarterly from an ocean of submissions and are sold from listening stations hosted by arts-supportive coffee houses. There will be two separate showcases for the Northeast and the Northwest.

The Northeast showcase focuses on the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada, while the Northwest showcase is centered around the Pacific Northwest. However, both are open to musicians from all regions. Bands and artists may submit to either showcase through this listing.

The Online Showcase: The five featured albums from each showcase will be posted to the Levee Breaking site for the duration of the showcases (from which point they'll be included in the showcase history).

The Physical Showcase: The albums will be distributed to and available for purchase from listening stations hosted by coffee shops around Boston or Seattle, depending on the region of the showcase. At the close of the showcase the author(s) receive 100% of all album sales.

The Showcase Concert: Each quarter, they put on a showcase concert with the featured artists, which is filmed, put onto a DVD and posted on the site. These are free, all-ages concerts.

For more info, visit: http://www.theleveebreaking.com

Under The Radar Sampler
Deadline: Nov 28, 2009 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time

Under the Radar is a quarterly indie music magazine that covers up and coming and emerging artists, as well as more established bands. Up to 4 tracks from Sonicbids artists will be selected for an upcoming compilation that will be included in an upcoming Best-of-the-Decade issue. Under the Radar reaches 155,000+ young and hip readers and is distributed throughout North America, Europe and elsewhere.

With a new website and media player launching in late June, Under the Radar is taking its famous compilation digital. At least one Sonicbids artist will be selected by Under the Radar for inclusion in the sampler. The sampler will make free downloads available to its 20,000 unique visitors per month and stickers will be included with 60,000 print issues pointing readers towards the sampler.

Additionally, selected artists will receive editorial in the print mag and/or Under the Radar website.

Under the Radar mainly covers indie rock and indie pop and is most interested in artists from those genres. Although most of its features are on indie rock bands, Under the Radar also has special subsections in the album reviews section devoted to Americana/alt-country, electronica, hip-hop, jazz, reissues, and singles/EPs. The magazine is also interested in shoegazing, space-rock, and soul groups. The magazine generally does not cover these genres: hardcore, metal, punk, hard rock, pop-punk, mainstream pop, smooth jazz, mainstream country, classical, blues, and new age.

Some core Under the Radar bands include: Beirut, Feist, Tegan and Sara, Modest Mouse, Bjork, Deerhunter, Vampire Weekend, Jens Lekman, The Shins, MGMT, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Rilo Kiley, Spoon, Interpol, Jarvis Cocker, Band of Horses, Devendra Banhart, Animal Collective, LCD Soundsystem, and many others.

For more info, visit: http://www.undertheradarmag.com/
